At Wholesale Medical Products Online, we have
developed a formal in-house lab testing method for measuring the
realistic (in-use) capacity, or absorbency of adult briefs. Our
Incontinence Product Absorbency Rating System (IPARS) utilizes a
droplet rating method for showing the actual capacity of each product,
before failure (or the inability of the product to hold any more
fluid).
Each droplet
represents 240cc (or 8 ounces) - the average single void for a healthy
adult. Beyond the amount (or number of drops) shown, the product
will fail, leaving the product users skin in direct contact with
caustic urine. The more droplets shown, the more
absorbent the product is. Why is this important? The
greater the capacity of the product, the dryer the skin will be.
For the incontinent patient, dry skin = healthy skin.
Did You Know...?
That by using more absorbent
products, generally fewer changes will need to be made during the day?
That the average healthy adult will experience 5 voids over the course
of 24 hours (an average total of 1,200cc, or 40 ounces per day)?
As we get older, the liver and kidneys gradually become less efficient
in processing fluids through the system, resulting in increased
average single voids and increased average daily output.
